What puzzled me is that our telephone is not listed in the telephone directory so where would she of got my number from? This was some lady that spoke to me there after I got a few more calls which we did not answer.

This is exactly what is worrying me as well, our telephone number too is not listed so where are they finding the numbers from?
All I can think of is perhaps there is a leak from Telkom, the ADSL section?

Voldermort you do not think it could be the banks perhaps? As we have truly been very secretive about our number.

I think most of the scammers just make up their own numbers - haven't you noticed how often they ask you for your name before they tell you what they want?

Anyone who phones us and wants to know our names (or pretends they want to speak to someone else and then asks for our names) is shoved off and the receiver replaced immediately.

Got one of these calls today ... saying that there are serious problems with my computer ... it really is horrible, especially if the reason they think it's worth trying is because people are falling for it... I wonder if Telkom can control these sort of things, there should be a hotline or something where you can report these numbers so they get blocked. I know they'll just use another number but it would be great to make things more difficult for them.
