Default What sort of phone call is this?

Someone phoned us yesterday from this number 004402048538922. The 0044 is the code
I phone to speak to the boys in the UK.There was no one on the other side.About a half hour later the same phone call--just silence
This morning I had the same call but this time a women said she wanted to help me to keep my computer safe.
She went into a long explanation--I am busy trying to catch up on my posting--so I asked her what she wants to sell me.
She said"I dont want to sell anything" "I just need you to switch on your computer so that I can give you instructions on how to protect your computer from hackers."
I was suspicious so told her I will do no such thing over the phone and she can send me an email with the details.
    Cut!! Gone!!
When this phone call from the 0044 showed up on my identity call yesterday and I did not recognize it as any of my three sons phone numbers I was worried that something was wrong
I called all 3 of them to make sure they were okay.

Shame, geewhizz, that shyster put you to great expense by having to telephone your three sons.

But good for you on not being scammed! Clever girl!

    HI
yes, something similar, they called me also and said they were from microsoft security centre and my computer was sending them info that there were problems-They then ask all sorts of details and eventually want to sell you a useless security system filled with spyware etc-When they could not tell me who my service provider was i knew they were obviously scamming-Never ends and we have to be so vigilant!!!

Hubby answered both calls yesterday when she kept quiet.
She spoke to me when I answered this morning.
Obviously she did not want to speak to a clever manimages.jpg

That's really a bad experience GeeWhizz. It's never nice getting an unknown phone number when you have family in that area. My Dad (83) is in a retirement home and when he phones me, his calls sometimes come via the switchboard. So i get an unknown 033 number and my heart always jumps wondering if it is one of the staff calling me.

I bet your heart was in a spin until you had gotten hold of your sons.
    Items I have for sale.

Why do today what you can put off till next year?

This is a well known scam, they phone you and get you to check and confirm your pc status on their "site", when the check updates it shows as having been infected with numerous virus/trojan worms etc. They then "clean"your pc remotely and a charge of course, normally on your credit card and before you know it you will have charges or even worse a cloned card.

You lucky they actually spoke to you my son had his cell phone ring straight throughout yesterday afternoon throughout the night when he answered no was there. This morning my husband dailed the number but the person on the other side could not under stand English? At least the calls have stopped. I sometimes think it is a scam. This morning at three o clock his cell phone went off most annoying. He can not switch it off as he could be alerted at any time when something is wrong at the business...

Maybe I am being neurotic but I worry that they can hack into our phone numbers.

When I get these calls and can see it is the same caller, I answer them - but don't say anything or else whisper really softly so they are listening intently - then whistle or scream really loudly and hang up. The calls stop immediately.

Evil sniggering and bit a cackling also works a charm... But it freaks my mother out sometimes when she calls from a private number

    LOL!!! That'll larn her...

No - the private numbers I do not answer at all - EVER! Anyone who really needs to get hold of me can email or sms or phone me using a recognisable number. I am sick to death of scamsters, telemarketeers and other useless phonesters.

It's the repeat phone calls from a recognisable number which have already been told to get lost (usually very pleasantly the first time) which receive the loud shrill treatment!

    Dimitri......Hello
    Poor Guy........
    Dimitri.......And what is your point
    Poor Guy............
Dimitri........I heard you the first time now you better tell me what is your (rude word) point
    Poor Guy..........
Dimitri..........You are a dirty little lovable poodle talking (rude word) to me and if you phone here again I will find out exactly where you are and break your (rude word) neck, now (rude word) off, little lovable poodle

I doubt they will be phoning back here again for sometime.
