    Default Mice and heavy metal music ...

    MUSIC - The healthy and the unhealthy?
    In a controlled experiment 72 white mice were trained to go through a maze to get their food. When they took an average of 10 minutes to do this they were then divided into three groups of 24 and for 10 hours each day:

    • the first group was subjected to Mozart;
    • the second group to silence;
    • the third group to Anthrax (a heavy metal group).

    After 4 weeks of this the average times changed as follows:

    • the Mozart group improved from 10 to 1.5 minutes;
    • the music free group improved from 10 to 5 minutes;
    • but the heavy metal group went UP from 10 to 30 minutes.

    What's more, the heavy metal group began killing each other.

    What amazes me most of all is that someone would spend money doing this research?!

    Isn't it ridiculous? When I was at varsity there was a horrid lecturer who spent a lot of time investigating whether moles, mole rats, and other fossorial (underground-dwelling) rodents can swim. Then there was another guy who was investigating the endangered red-duiker's dietary composition - did he use skat (poo) analysis (one of the more acceptable non-lethal methods to identify dietary intake - quantity and quality) - NO - the b@st@rd killed some to examine gut contents - the lazy man's way to identify dietary intake! My but I used to SEETHE!!

    LOLOLOL!! Good explanations both. Must say that some heavy metal does qualify as music - but believe that many bands identified themselves with this genre really only elected to do so because of their total lack of musical ability and a burning desire to shriek, scream and make as much black noise as possible!

    Douglas Adams (in Restaurant at the End of the Universe) has a lovely description of a loud band - this description from Wikipedia:

    "Disaster Area, claimed to be the loudest band in the universe, and in fact the loudest sound of any kind, anywhere. So loud is this band that the audience usually listens from the safe distance of thirty seven miles away in a well-built concrete bunker. Disaster Area's lavish performances went so far as to crash a space ship into the sun to create a solar flare."

    BTW - Douglas Adams, in the fifth book of the Hitchhiker "trilogy" (sic - LOL BAS!) - describes a deity known as "Almighty Bob" LOLOL!!!

    Aaaahhh.... now that explains why the teenager across the road has to turn the sound system to maximum nearly every afternoon - his brain development is going backwards! (can't wait to get to a small quiet town...)

    Ugh now they want to tell me mice is equal to people when they do this test? I know of a judge somewhere that sentenced teens that played their music to loud to listen to classical music Mozart etc for a number of hours on a Saturday morning and amazing these teens started appreciating classical music!

    I am a full on Metal head, but believe it or not I have Mozart and Vivaldi in my collection. I also love The Cure,The pixies, Nick Cave,Pink Floyd etc.
    There are plenty heavy metal bands that has had some sort of classical or jazz influence.

    Ps. You cant just listen to the heavy stuff, you need some sort of a balance lmao

    I've been a heavy metal fan for a few decades now (shite I'm getting old). Deep Purple has always been a favourite. But then I also adore Carole King. Not sure if that is balanced or just plain confused. LOL

    But I don't think mice would have any reason to enjoy metal music.
