Default What is becoming of this country once again???!!!

I was reading the News 24 web page this evening, found these shocking reports:

Former Springbok loose forward Solly Tyibilika has apparently been shot dead in Cape Town, according to reports.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested for robbing paramedics while they were attending to a patient, Johannesburg metro police say.

The body of an unidentified man has been found lying on the premises of Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha, Eastern Cape police say.

Johannesburg - An elderly woman and a man have been murdered inside the King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

Johannesburg - A Diepsloot policeman opened fire on a man who was trying to stab him on Friday, wounding him twice, police said.

KwaZulu-Natal health MEC Sbongiseni Dhlomo will visit the Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlazi on Tuesday after a decomposing body was found on the hospital premises.

    Absolutely disgusting!!!

    Default It's not all bad

    Morning Staccato,

Those are really very disturbing news reports, and it is very sad that these terrible things are happening in our beautiful country. But there are also a lot of good things on the go - even the small things in your and my local areas. The bad news makes Front Page News. The good stuff is usually published on inside pages - if at all.

Just to give you a personal example: We have a top-notch team of paramedics here. In the last 10 days of Mum's life, we had to call the paramedics twice. On each occasion it took one phone call and a 5 to 10 minute wait, and two men arrived. We met two different teams, but they shared one thing - good character. All four men were caring, compassionate, and full of gentle humour (my Mum had a great sense of humour, and even at the age of 79 and terminally ill was still a great flirt ). When my Mum passed, they had to come out at midnight. One paramedic and the Coroner. Once again our experience was one of great compassion.

This will never make front page news.

Possibly we are just blessed to be living where we do, but I have a full time view of a little bit of life right outside my window.

    • The mentally disturbed lady who, each day, sweeps the leaves off the pavement - in return, she receives food, clothes, bits of change, and a couple of ciggies from various locals. She cannot communicate, but gets by.
    • The regular road blocks - actually checking that the cars are roadworthy (not speed traps).
    • 100s of delivery trucks each week - there must be some growth in economy when you see what goes to the shop.
    • The clean streets - no litter in sight.
    • The soup kitchen down the road.
    • Friendly smiling people. Although they are dirt poor, they enjoy a good laugh with each-other.
    • Our OK Superstore regularly place inspirational quotes in an advertising board outside the shop.
    • Family members fetching the old folk from the home across the road for a day outing.
    • Daily silly, humorous incidents which brighten up our lives.

There are obviously a lot of sad things too, but the good does outweigh the bad.

I choose to look for the good. Focussing on the bad would send me into a depression and I'd miss the good stuff.

This is what happens in the "NEW SOUTH AFRICA" Only a few positives comes out of it! Lots more negatives happens day after day.
Nobody can stop it.........It already went much too far! It's a sick society we live in!

I absolutely agree with vortechz. This is the whole problem with society today - everyone is so busy fighting for their rights that they overlook the rights of others.

I believe it is a direct result of children's upbringing. We used to have it ingrained in us, at home and at school, that we needed to consider others before ourselves!

Living in a small village may give me a different perception.

I do see and hear about all the negative things that are going on. There is not much I can do about them except toi-toi and demand justice for the wrongs, which I do, do. But there are also a lot of positive things on the go - focussing on them and doing what I can to makes my life more productive.

I very sadly lost a friend in an accident this weekend on our road here. And while he was lying hurt, he was robbed. So... am rather down at the world and the behaviour of people at the moment. Even in small towns.
But note: terrible things happen the world over - this country is not unique. Just watch Al Jazeera for an hour and feel thankful that you live here...

I'm soooo sorry to hear that Neil, I really am.....I too know the torment of losing a child. If it helps at all remember they chose us as parents, perhaps knowing that we COULD & WOULD survive their leaving before us, not a very easy task at all, actually a damning task.......& knowing perhaps that we will one day be able to make peace with their decision to leave before us.

Vic and Neil, very tragic and horrible. It is always difficult to accept that people like this exist - but they do.

Neil, just the thought gives me goosebumps. That memory must be very difficult to bear.

That is a wonderful Sam, and can only come from someone who has lost a child too.
