I think they will match Grant's chilly willies quite well? Or perhaps they will do fine on the black market?

Miems - are we now to expect Grant to appear in his listing together with the chillie willies?

That might be another x-rated listing, I fear!

As far as I know - some of the "strange" colours we see in some vegetables these days are actually their original colours. Things have been so genetically modified over time and now we think that what we know is the acceptable colour. That's why so many heirloom vegetables look wierd to us - but in fact, that's the colour they should be.

For example, the carrot is not really supposed to be orange. It was originally white (ish) and was modified in a fit of patriotism by the Dutch into the orange that we know today...

You are very correct. When it says that it is an Heirloom that means that it is an unmodified breed. This is what Wikipedia say :

An heirloom plant, heirloom variety, or (especially in the UK) heirloom vegetable is a cultivar that was commonly grown during earlier periods in human history, but which is not used in modern large-scale agriculture. Many heirloom vegetables have kept their traits through open pollination, while fruit varieties such as apples have been propagated over the centuries through grafts and cuttings. The trend of growing heirloom plants in gardens has been growing in popularity in North America and Europe over the last decade.

I put this pack together which is a collection of mostly heirloom varieties from around the world.
