Suggestion for the forum

The BoB Forum has grown teeth in the last few years becoming an increasing burden around the necks of Cuan and Andries and the BoB team. It must be a real time consuming thing and an irritation when slanging matches start, like recently in the coin forum.

I can see the predicament that Cuan and Andries face because they have a business to run first and the forum, while useful for members, must be a terrible distraction at times.

So I have a proposal.

I would like to suggest that BoB call for nominations for three independent volunteers to take up the position of administering the forum day to day on behalf of the BoB team. The nominated members could be put on an open poll in the community forum for a few weeks. The three top rated volunteers willing to take on the task, once approved by Cuan/BoB, then take over the more mundane tasks of monitoring the forum, banning people, blocking threads etc.. Every six months or a year these positions could be voted on again bringing in fresh blood to ensure balance and fairness.

This move would relieve the BoB Admin team from these responsibilities and, because it would no longer be actively monitoring and making decisions on the forum, would remove any allegations of bias by them in the decision making. It would also put a firewall between the BoB Auctions (the business side) and the decisions made by these independent volunteers on the forum (the social side).

Of course, the BoB admin, under this proposal, would always have the ability to revoke the role of these volunteers at any time or override decisions but I don’t think that would be necessary…

It is important to note that this suggestion is in no way meant to undermine the excellent role that Cuan and Andries have played in administering the Forum in the past but simply put forward here to assist them and make their lives easier.

I would like to hear comments from other members about my suggestion.

I think it's a great idea. Our team does spend a significant amount of time monitoring and moderating the forum but extra hands would obviously help. Have some nominations come in and we will discuss internally how to take this forward.

Makes a lot of sense and I think Cuan and Andries could sleep well at night!!

I am too trusting so I would not be a good candidate! And we'll be away for a month so MrAerospace would be unavailable until mid-January.

However, both MrAerospace and I vote for MsPlod and mellowred (to begin with, anyway!)

This is a brilliant idea Mr A. The forum has grown in the time that I have been on, and must be a nightmare for two people (Cuan and Admin) to manage alone.

The forum needs to be monitored regularly, and just two people (with full time jobs) must find this terribly time consuming.

Lilythepink wouldn't be good at this stage and MJ would nip everybody heartily on the ear, and when they turn to see what he has done he will bite them on their nose - just for good measure.

MJ thinks that MsPlod and mellowred would (if they are prepared to take on the task) be fair to all concerned.

MsPlod is an ideal candidate, she's fair and diplomatic. I may just loose my cool, see red flags everywhere, and ban everyone

I'd like to see Lil involved, but if that is not possible right now then that's it. If necessary I would give it a go.

I think Lil and Mr Aerospace could alternate.. one taking the day shift and the other taking the turbulent (Australian) night shift ...

Good suggestion Scott. I'm pretty sure that if this does get approved by BoB it will not be activated before Lil and Mr A return from their Christmas break.

Lil, you may be trusting, but you see things from all sides and are never pounce on all and sundry. In my mind you are an ideal candidate.

Add Lily and Mr Aerospace to the list ...... after all it was Mr A's great suggestion.. and how can BoB lose?
