Miracles do happen ...

At the beginning of December 2011 I had an op in Cape Town. Although the surgeon is "contracted out" I managed to negotiate medical aid rates with him and paid his account up front.

I duly submitted it to our medical aid for a refund at beginning of January 2011 and there our troubles began ... medical aid insisted he had not charged medical aid rates and only refunded us about 50% of the cost. Daily emails to the surgeon's bookkeeper and medical aid have kept me very busy (and with a continually rising blood pressure). Decided to go to the "top" at our medical aid and, voila, they realised their data capturer had put in the "contracted out" rates - which were mentioned on the account - and not the actual charges.

For the first time, to our knowledge, a medical aid has apologised most profusely for their error (they had been getting progressively more cheeky when I suggested to them that the error was on their side!)

It feels so good to have been right!

Great news Jan & yes, miracles do still happen.
At the end of last year we found out that Jade was granted a bursary of R10 000 for this year so on Friday we went to UCT to find out the outstanding balance, when it needs to be paid etc etc etc and we were told that due to Jade's performance, making Dean's List 4 years in a row, academic results etc Jade has bn granted another bursary from UCT........A FULL BURSARY & WE PAY NOTHING
Still can't believe that such good things can happen, and yes, we are still dancing around for joy

Lily - glad you didn't let up and let the medical aid win. I sometimes think they just remain stubborn hoping that a person will just give up!
When I had surgery in CT, we paid the hospital in full (sjoe!!) because we were told we had to as the medical aid would then refund us. Then the medical aid paid the hospital too. Bloody two years to get the money back from the hospital because the medical aid made the mistake of paying them instead of us. And they never lifted a finger to help until they got sick of me and demanded the hospital pay them the money back, which they then paid me... Really - such a simple thing and sooooooooo dragged out!

If that was me I would have sorted them out so quickly.
When hubby cant get joy out of someone I say"Let me deal with it"
If it means a phone call he will hide away out of hearing.

Thank you all. Dimitri & I are so incredibly proud of her she has just today received 2 emails from law firms (one of them in Houghton) stating they have seen her name on the Dean's List, seen her results and would be very pleased if she would do her articles with them. Jade is completely dumbfounded that companies are actually tracking her down and asking her to do her articles with them
