I was running low on my 'drug of choice', so I drove to Starbucks early this morning to purchase a 5-lb bag of espresso beans; should last about 2-months.
After telling the girl behind the counter what I was needing, a lady about my age, standing behind me, asked me if I made my 'granny soak' with espresso beans...and was it 'good'?
'Granny soak'...never heard of it, but since relocating to Tennessee some 8 or 9 years ago, my 'y'all ain't from 'round here, air ya?' vocabulary' has 'grown legs'.
I told the lady I had not heard of 'granny soak' and asked her what it was.
(pink cheeks taking on a sickly green tint and 'holding onto my cookies' so as not to 'play Barney-Barf Up' all over the floor)....
"sweetened, milky coffee with a big 'chunk' of cornbread broken up in it"...also called 'coffee soup'.
Oh, heck no!
Some things, as they say down heeeaaaahhh...jest ain't rite!
That sounds a bit like the old Army mixture that the guys used to make way back when... Apparently a nice white bread sarmie loaded with peanut butter and syrup, placed into a bowl with a strong cup of coffee (made just the way you like it) poured over. Then it is promptly devoured with a spoon.
I've never had the guts to try it, but I've heard many guys chat about it.
Speaking about weird coffee, has anybody tried Nescafe Green? Saw it for the 1st time today at Pick 'n Pay but promptly picked up my tried & trusted Nescafe Classic. Still curious about it, though.
