Default Anyone use the internet via 8ta?

    Hi there

Our vodacom dongle thingy has died and we are thinking of buying an 8ta modem through Telkom. Does anyone use one of these and how well do they work?

Don't want to buy one and have hassles... The vodacom one worked very nicely for about two years and turned up its toes...

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

We bought a 8ta dongle thingy for Jade while she was in hospital - I do remember going at least 3x to the Telkom office though, the last time with her laptop in tow so they could show me how it worked (but remember I am not a pc fundi)
We also needed to buy a stick so it was the stick, the prepaid amount & the dongle thingy which all worked very well although I do need to say she only used it in the hospital so it was only for a period of a few days.
If memory serves me correctly we got 1 gig - although Jade did say it seemed to eat up the gig quicker than ADSL.

Great, thanks for the reply! It's quite a bit cheaper than the Vodacom dongle - and the prepaid data is cheaper too. So I think I'm going to go for it. Just wish we had ADSL here... Well, we do have one of a sorts buts it's hellish expensive to set up and there have been a lot of complaints about reliability.
So am sticking with a dongle for now - even if it's slooooow (we don't get 3G out this way, only Edge)

    Hi Balls,

Just a word to the wise, 8ta is making use of the MTN towers for their signal.

    HI
i use mtn-they charge R149 per month for 2gig and includes free dongle-I hardly ever use more than that and if you use more the rate is very cheap per meg over the 2 gig-Check it out, well worth it in my opinion.

    Thanks, Admin and Neil!

I think we do have an MTN tower here...

And those MTN rates are brilliant!

    Hi Victoria,

I may be a bit late, but check your MTN signal before running up any expenses. Here in Napier the signal is so slow seasons could change while waitng for a download.

Do you have a local ISP in your area? Our provider has towers all around ... cost us R1,000 for a dish and R199 per month for 3gigs.
    Items I have for sale.

Why do today what you can put off till next year?
