Seen something like this before - isn't it that you should divide your total by something and if the answer is xyz, then two numbers have been swopped around?

The R239 was added up as R293. That means the total would be R54 more than the cash in the till.

An even better answer! At the same time as checking the cashiers person for the cash, check for the missing till parts which caused it stop working!

If a shortfal can be divided by 9 as in the case of R54 then the chances are that it is a twisted number.
Any number that is twisted will give the same result
i.e. R692 twisted in any way R926 or R962 or R269 etc The differance between the correct number and the number twisted can be divided by 9
