  • PS3 takes 3D leap

"With a total of seven pairs of Sony's professional HDC cameras on rigs at every match, the action on the pitch will be captured in a stunning 3D quality enabled through its proprietary multi-image processor and 3D Outside Broadcast truck.

3D filming will be realised at five out of the 10 FIFA World Cup stadiums: Soccer City and Ellis Park in Johannesburg; Moses Mabhida in Durban; Green Point in Cape Town; and Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth. 25 matches in total will be filmed and broadcast in 3D, which will include a carefully chosen selection of those games expected to attract most public attention, including the opening game on 11 June (Tomorrow) at Soccer City between South Africa and Mexico."
Make you want a 3D TV?

If you are a fan of Tech brands, you might have heard that Sony have set up booths which they have called the "Sony 3D Pavilions". All sorts of media will be displayed on the 3D TVs at these pavilions from movies, video games to music and highlights of the World Cup games.

At this point the PS3 system is the only console on the market that can support full stereoscopic 3D gaming thanks to a firmware update released recently. The PSN is now serving 3D games, with the first 3 available today, and a demo coming tomorrow.

If you have the fortune of owning a 3D TV , you’ll be able to download from the Playstation Network, 3D enabled versions of WipEout HD, SuperStardustHD and PAIN, with a 3D-enabled demo of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift coming tomorrow.

What a way to start the World Cup huh.

If you already own those games, a free patch will bring them to you in 3 whole dimensions, and they’ll also be bundled should you purchase one of Sony’s shiny new 3D Bravia HDTVs.

First came LCD HD Ready, then Full HD, then LED and now 3D LED. Are you convinced by the offerings of 3D television?
