      Well, the above is more or less true, but not the whole truth.
      Only the 20Gb and 60Bb NTSC (American PS3's) are TRUELY backward compatible.
      These models contain the PS2 hardware, and play virtually every PS2 game correctly.
      In PAL regions (SA) only the 60Gb is SEMI backward compatible, as it does not contain the PS2 CPU. It is able to emulate some (+/- 75%) of the PS2 games using software.
      These consoles are not made any more and are extremely rare and expensive.
      In my honest opinion its a better bet nowadays to buy a PS3 slim and a seperate PS2.
      It will cost you a hell of a lot less for both too!
