Maybe I am wrong, but on closer inspection of your picture it seems that the bottom of the postmark does not depict a name, but is almost a mirror image of the black markings in the middle of the postmark at the top, under the words "boer camp". Looks like a triangle, 5 x rectangles and then another triangle. These markings at the top and bottom are in the inner circle of the postmark. Hope I am making sense here.
Thanks for your help, I am not convinced but I think the puzzle will be solved at some time or other. I gave the stamp to David Crocker over the week-end, he has been a member of the Boer War Philatelic Society for, I think he said 41 years. Bottom line is he could not help. I have never spent so much time on one stamp before but I refuse to give up.
