  • Crazy Ticket Sales

Tickets went on sale at ticket centres and banks across South Africa. FIFA said 53 000 Soccer World Cup tickets were sold in the first eight hours of the final phase yesterday.

About 500 000 seats were made available to local fans, the first time 2010 tickets could be bought over the counter. No hassle of having to get online and buy a ticket using your credit card. Tickets were all sold cash and on a first come first serve basis. One can somehow understand the high demand causing technical issues to the ticketing system, which resulted in a lot of frustrated fans leaving empty handed. There are about 450 000 tickets left for local fans and I can bet itís going to get even crazier as the tournament draws closer.

For such a big event however this was inexcusable and both FIFA and Match (the company employed by FIFA to run the ticket process) should have foreseen such high levels of demand.

Did you manage to get yourself a ticket to the games yesterday?

We've elected to watch on TV - we don't live near any of the stadia and don't fancy the crowds that will be there! Perhaps if we were 20 years younger we'd still enjoy the crowds and the atmosphere but these days we prefer the couch and tea and rusks!! lol
